What American progressive is going to vote for an ex-CIA officer?

She started at the CIA in 1985. Her work directly contributed to the fall of the Soviet Union. Primary voters won’t forget that.

I enjoyed the ad. J turn looked like fun.

But something’s bugging me.... by performing the J turn, she’s still heading in the same direction. So she may be facing the right way, but she hasn’t really turned around. Put another way, if the country was going backwards and hence going the wrong way, the cars maneuver means she’s still heading the wrong way, but now she’s facing it head on. Does that make sense?

She had to help put the USSR behind us so that modern Progressives could pander to people who have no living memory of communism in a modern European country. We can then recast it as utopia!

Brilliant long game.

You know I don’t even like this meme template, but I think it captures things:

Kinja'd!!!

Progressives aren’t calling for a C ommunist, or a for command economy or anything like that, we just want a strong European- style social state, they type that is happier and more productive (per hour worked) than the US, with universal healthcare and good workers’ rights, and sounds environmental policies. There are a whole bunch of those, and that’s what we want, not the USSR or a broken state like Venezuela.

You know, I was just thinking about Scooter Libby (for no apparently reason) as I was driving yesterday...

I think it’s a fair complaint. But if they had done it properly, then she would have been the person driving us the wrong way, so that doesn’t work. Maybe she should have done a 360 and sped off going forward? Sort of flashy instead of just taking it out of reverse, but shows some action...

Exactly, and I mostly agree with some of those ideals. If it weren’t for partisanship and the “package deal” that comes with most politicians’ platforms, we could really look at things an issue at a time and find more common ground on things. But when partisanship and tribalism gets involved, your entire case is weakened by 80% out of the gate just because it has a label on it.

Green New Deal? Let’s talk.

Wait, AOC is championing it? Please tell her (and Trump) to sit down and let the grownups talk for a few minutes first.

This country was supposed to be a melting pot, and in that ideal I include picking and choosing the best of what the world has to offer. We should be able to pull most of it off, despite our huge geography and disparate population.

Other side effects can be more economic mobility, and longer life expectancy.

But never diminish the so-called right’s penchant for using one of their fighting words when it comes to the off chance that a few wealthy people will actually have to pay a little more, or that some politically connected middlemen industries might be made obsolete.  It’s all going to trickle down any day now, and I tell ya, it will make Norway or Germany look like Venezuela.

A J turn followed by a lurid drift that continued the momentum and turned the car the right way and put it into drive would have been pretty awesome.

The general electorate wants what you describe. The primary electorate thinks that is the fantasy of liberal revisionists.

My reply from the other post about it... There are some very interesting political dynamics i n Northern NM, and they don’t work in her favor. She probably has more support outside of NM than in the state.

Interesting ad, but I’d put her chances at winning that primary at somewhere not too much better than zero. Her base will be white liberals in Santa Fe (call em’ non-native transplants from places like California, primarily). There’s a lot of those (we’ve gentrified much of traditional Santa Fe out of the city proper over the last 30 years), but not enough to overcome the traditional Hispanic party base that she’ll need to win across the entire Northern part of the state. I’m sure she’ll get some funding from national D leaning groups, but I’d doubt it will make much of a difference. For most of the party who’s primary she’ll need to win outside of new Santa Fe, she might as well be an alien.
